A group of dedicated CGYPP alumni throughout the program years, along with their friends and family members, gathered last weekend (August 30 – September 1, 2024) in the village of Šonov (in the Broumov region), for a really unique volunteer experience. Led by Petr Bergmann, a local editor, curator, and art enthusiast, the team launched an attempt to restore and preserve the statue of the Virgin Mary, a cultural landmark in the area which was overgrown with bushes and needed to be extricated.
This traditional event organised by our alumna Jana Urbanovská attracted approximately 30 participants, including children, who were eager to contribute to the local community and explore the region’s rich history. Petr Bergmann, with his extensive knowledge, made our weekend both educational and memorable and we have visited more interesting places and had time for a picnic.
